Hey, I remember: Millencolin

As far as rock music goes, most of my favorite stuff comes from Sweden. And when I think about it, among the giant list of bands from the land of Swedes, Millencolin (Myspace) was the first.

Millencolin was one of my first tastes of fun loving punk rock music. Back in the day when Minidisc players were as cool and chic as the first week when iPhones came out (before everyone got one!). Millencolin hits all bases for your general punk rock anthems: friends, family, love, having fun, growing up and buying awesome mopeds. Unlike Piebald, I'm glad one of my old favorite bands are still kicking it.

Millencolin - No Cigar
Millencolin - Penguins and Polarbears
Millencolin - Man or Mouse
Millencolin - Kemp

More Dark Knight

This one can't come out soon enough. Check out the new promo posters.

Ladies and Gents: The Young Punx

Dancey electro house is an odd beast. For a genre meant to make you want to get up, get down and have fun, it has run itself into a bit of a problem. Once one too many producers figured out just how easy it was to copy those simple, yet infectious grooves, the genre became stale. Soon all the funky basslines, guitar riffs, vocal samples and synth chord progressions became commonplace and it became hard to give a shit about new house tracks.

While The Young Punx (Myspace) aren't reinventing the genre or revolutionizing it, they are bringing the cheeky fun of dance music back to the floor. They are keeping their kick drums heavy, their guitar riffs funky, making sure the bass is going to shake plenty of hips and pitch shifting their vocal samples up a few octaves. It also helps that The Young Punx get most of their tracks remixed by some great producers giving their tracks and even stronger boost in the fun department.

Even people who write in "magazines" love these guys. Look at some words they wrote:

"Future superstars" - Galaxy FM
"Essential" - DJ Mag

The Young Punx - Dance With Someone Else (Phunk Investigation remix)
The Young Punx - Fire (Phonat Mix) Web Promo Version

You can also get a tons of free MP3s from the fellas at their website.

I CALLED IT: The Ting Tings

While I didn't go out of my way to say these guys would be the next big thing, I knew The Ting Tings (Myspace) would get big at some point after I posted about a while ago. Now you can see them in the new iPod ad and during this week, they are also a part of iTunes USA's single of the week!

LADIES AND GENTS: VHS or BETA

Call me a jerk but who knew Kentucky could rock like this? VHS or BETA (Myspace) mixes a bit of rock, new wave flavor and a hint of that Kentucky accent into one super fun electro rock package. Even if that's not enough for you to be impressed, these gentlemen have been remixed by Midnight Juggernauts, Tommie Sunshine, LA Riots, Cut Copy and one of my personal favorites: Surkin. They've even done shows with Kool Keith, Duran Duran, The Hives, Stereo Total and Fatboy Slim!

Give the boys a listen. You'll feel as excited as the picture above! Maybe even more so!

They make name dropping sound good...

Murs and Busy P on the new Ed Banger Records compilation. C'mon!

This song is so crazy because it's detailed snapshot of the club scene going right now. Although it makes me wonder am I cool because I know just about everyone and everywhere Murs mentions in this song or does that mean that these people and places have become so commonplace that of course if someone says "Ron's got his camera all in my face," we all know what that means like if someone said something about "Britney" or "Posh and Becks?"

But for what it's worth, I wish your crew wrote this song. I may recognize the names and places mentioned in this song, but these guys lived these lyrics.

Busy P featuring Murs - To Protect and Entertain

HOLY SHIT: Richie Jackson

I had no idea it was possible to be a hippie, a skater and a ninja all in one.
Thanks for proving the possibility Richie Jackson!

ANDROSS EVERYWHERE: Dammit, China!

CHAPTER 2

Andross finally makes it to China and the self deprecation begins. Close friends would tell you that Andross' love for travel is only rivaled by his extremely lack of what most would consider a normal sense of direction. For an amount of times too embarrassing to count, Andross gets lost in downtown China yet again.

OTHER BLOGS: The Wolverine Daily

"My friend Chuck made me draw Wolverine, so I did it and made him a mountain and an animal rights activist. One claw at the ready to slay those who would trespass upon his mammalian brotherhood. I guess it fixed or broke something in me cause now I can't stop drawing Wolverine."

Why don't great things like this happen to me?

FLIPBOOKS

For the longest time, I used to think this is as far as we all got with how awesome flip books can be. Naive me. Then of course, my small little mind was opened to great things like this:

Masashia Kawamura's Rainbow in Your Hand

The entire CD was my first attempt at a pre-arranged set made entirely in Ableton Live (every other set I've ever put online were live recordings of impromptu DJing.) The entire CD is completely mixed harmonically so hopefully it'll sound that much better to your ears! I will be using this mix as my "business card" for the next few months so let's see what happens and I'd love to hear what you think about it!

Three great things in one!

1. Being drunk
2. Apple computers
3. Jeff Goldblum

(Of course he is not drunk. The creator of this video slowed it down 50% but the audio effect of Goldblum's speech is great.)

- Thanks for the tip ENZO.
